Whole Foods Bakery

Jessica | April 3, 2009

If you keep up with first-bite.com, you will soon discover that I love sweets. Currently, my sweet tooth causes me to crave cupcakes (last year, it was ice cream).  Whole Foods has a great cupcake selection, and when I’m able, I take a visit for a sweet indulgence.  Usually I go for a carrot cupcake or plain vanilla, but recently they had a few interesting items in the display case–PB&J and caramel apple cupcakes.

The PB&J cupcake was a vanilla cupcake with peanut butter frosting topped with strawberry jelly and peanuts, and, surprise! had a strawberry jelly filling. The peanut butter frosting was absolutely delicious, though almost too sweet.

The caramel apple cupcake was vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing and a caramel drizzle. According to Mario, at first, it didn’t taste like anything special, but then, another filling! This one was a rich caramel. As a disclaimer, Mario’s first bite photo is before reaching the filling, so he doesn’t look too impressed at this point.

Whole Foods is known for being a national organic foods chain, but I love to visit for their outstanding hot food, sushi, bakery, and salad bar. Visit their website for recipe ideas, healthy eating tips, and organic product features.
