Six Feet Under

Jessica | April 22, 2009

Six Feet Under is a seafood restaurant known for its fried things and bar scene.  There are two locations in Atlanta, in Grant Park on Memorial Dr. and in West Midtown on 11th St.  We visited the latter Thursday afternoon for an early dinner.

I LOVE oysters, so when I saw a buffalo version on the menu as an appetizer, I knew I had to try some.  I had an awesome version of these at Red Fish Grill in New Orleans about a year ago, so I was excited to see how they were here.  Granted, the oysters were large and juicy, but I was hoping for a “hard fry” as opposed to the toss in sauce with a little crispiness on the edges I got here.

For the main course,  I ordered a crab cake po’boy and Mario got a fried shrimp basket.

The po’boy was pretty bland to me. The crab cakes weren’t especially “crabby” tasting, and I thought corn was kind of an interesting–and not entirely welcome–addition to a po’boy. I wasn’t very impressed by the “home style chips” either, it seemed that they had avoided touching any salt (maybe they are supposed to taste this way?). Unfortunately, Mario’s fried shrimp were also devoid of flavor. However, he thought the fries that he subbed for the home style chips (good decision) were pretty good.

With all that said, the service at Six Feet Under was very prompt and we even had a manager stop by to ask us how things were going (before we got the food though). One cool thing about the Midtown location is that they have a huge wind turbine out back in an attempt to help run the restaurant on green energy. There is also a really awesome view from their rooftop terrace, which could be a really great place for drinks and conversation in this fab Atlanta spring weather. I’d recommend Six Feet Under for the bar, but not the food.

They have good Guinness Ice Cream. I also like the fish stew, but I have had a couple of poor meals there also.
