Flip Burger Boutique (2nd Bite)

Jessica | April 29, 2009

To celebrate finishing finals and prepare for this weekend’s graduation, we visited FLIP again for lunch. I usually wouldn’t make a second post about a restaurant, but since I tried something different and their burgers are so cool, I had to make an entry. We sat at the “chef’s bar” so we could see all the action in the back and got views of more of the burgers they make. I’d love to try all of them at some point!

The menu has changed a little since we last visited, and they are now offering a $12 combo of FLIP Burger, fries, and a milkshake. Pretty sweet. This time though, I had the Chorizo burger (spicy pork sausage, romesco ketchup, hash browns, fried egg, manchego cheese, smoked mayo) and vodka-battered onion rings.

Mario caught me mean-mugging, but I actually really liked my meal.  The chorizo patty was really tasty, and the fried egg was an interesting topping. It may be that I just don’t know how to eat fried eggs properly, but I ended up with yolk all over my plate–kind of a downer. I did like the taste of the egg that remained on my burger though. The hash browns were lost under all the other toppings and I only noticed they were there when a few chunks slid off the burger. The onion rings were tempura’d and were really light and crunchy. I’ve seen some reviews saying that they were too greasy (as my sweet potato tots were last time), but either they’ve fixed that problem or I had a really good batch because they weren’t greasy at all. They were only seasoned with salt and parsley, and I could have used a spicy kick either in the dipping sauce or on the rings themselves (my favorite, Tony Chachere’s, comes to mind).

Surprisingly, both Mario and I were full after our lunch excursion, which we hadn’t been after our first visit. Bigger buns or burgers maybe?

Is the combo just for the regular burger? Is the milkshake full size? That sounds like a good deal though either way. Glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been once and liked it okay but no burning desire to return. I still need to try Holeman & Finch’s burger!

The menu said the combo was just for the regular FLIP burger, but I can only assume the milkshake is full size. I’ve heard really good things about H&F too, just a little pricey for me right now!

The combo is a standard FLIP burger, order of fries, and a full size shake for $12.

You can add any cheese to the burger for 50 cents if you want a cheese burger combo instead.

H&F burger is good but goes in the opposite direction that FLIP takes. It’s a very large multi-stack greasy diner-style burger.
