BJ’s Brewhouse

Jessica | July 16, 2009

I was excited to try another of “Baton Rouge’s best” last week but was disappointed that the pizza place turned out to be cash only.  Hungry and still craving pizza, Spencer suggested a new-ish place right outside the mall, BJ’s Brewhouse.

To me, BJ’s is just another casual dining restaurant, with a menu about half the size of Cheesecake Factory’s (which is still massive).  They supposedly brew their own beer on site, which accounts for the special yeast bread used in their most popular menu items–deep dish pizzas.  Spencer has been raving about the pizza here for months, so I decided to give it a try.

Spencer went with his “usual”, the barbeque chicken pizza, and I tried the “Great White”, Alfredo sauce with mushrooms, garlic, fresh Roma tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and grilled chicken breast.

I don’t have a first bite photo for this because I wasn’t impressed by my white pizza, but Spencer loved his:

The pizzas aren’t really deep dish, they’re more like a regular amount of toppings on top of a lot of bread. Granted, the bread is very good–super soft and almost reminiscent of an unsweetened cinnamon roll–but I wasn’t wowed by the toppings.

BJ’s has an extensive beer list and hosts beer tastings and beer dinners, so it puts a different twist on casual dining. But, casual dining it remains!

We went here on Friday while I was in B.R. and I LOVED it! I had the Bacon Cheeseburger deep-dish pizza, and I cleaned my plate, LOL! And my girl Chelbi and I fell in LOVE with their strawberry lemonade, OMG!
