Star Provisions

Jessica | September 27, 2009

I have been wanting to visit Star Provisions for the longest and finally made it over Friday afternoon with my friend Tracie. Star Provisions is a culinary shop with deli and cheese counters, a bakery, and an eclectic gift/cookware shop. But we were visiting to check out “Provisions to Go”, which serves up a fantastic array of gourmet dishes and my favorite, sandwiches, to eat-in or take-out. Arguably their most talked-about sandwich is the shrimp po’boy, but I was ridiculously excited to see that on my visit, their sandwich special for the day was an oyster po’boy:

The po’boy was even better than I expected. The bread, while not authentic New Orleans po’boy bread, was soft and flavorful. It was smeared with a chili aioli with just the right amount of spice and stuffed with crisp lettuce, pickles, and juicy tomatoes. By far the best part (as it should be) was the oysters, which were perfectly seasoned and perfectly crunchy. I wanted to get a baggie of them to take home and snack on. So good!

I can’t wait to visit Star Provisions again and try out more sandwiches and their yummy looking cupcakes (I can’t believe I avoided getting one). My only complaint was the price point, my sandwich was $10+. Not the best for my grad student budget but sometimes, you just gotta splurge.
